When I saw that Tina Fey had a war movie coming out, my first thought was that it was a Funny or Die video to promote Sisters with Amy Poehler.
It is not. It is real, and it looks like a funny film with a dash of substance.
Based on Kim Barker’s 2011 memoir The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot has been adapted to the screen by Fey’s longtime comedy partner Robert Carlock (30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt).
Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman, Alfred Molina, and Billy Bob Thornton also star in the film, which was directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Crazy Stupid Love). Do note that Christopher Abbott and Alfred Molina are white dudes playing Afghan characters, which is something we are obliged to note.
