Less than a week after the first images from Whip It debuted, there’s already a trailer for the Drew Barrymore directed, Ellen Page roller-derby movie. And to be honest, it doesn’t look very good: Like a female version of a Will Ferrell/Adam Sandler sports movie. It should have three or four solid laughs, but I suspect the rest of it will be frothy filler.

But you know what? I’m glad Ellen Page is doing it. I loved Juno (fuck you), but I’m not sure why, but I was starting to get this perception of Ellen Page as an actress that was a little too self-serious. Here, whether the movie is good or not, it looks like Page is having a great time; there are some self-deprecating Juno jabs even in the trailer, and it might be nice for Page to take the occasionally mediocre comedy (as long as it makes money). She’s got a hard indie reputation, and Barrymore is just the person to disabuse the world of that it, for better or worse.

Plus: Daniel Stern, y’all. Where the hell has he been?
