A little while back I wondered out loud what we were all thinking: Where the hell is Viggo Mortensen?
At the end of that post there was a glimmer of hope: Viggo was to star in something called Captain Fantastic, a movie about a devoted father raising his kids in the forests of the Pacific Northwest in line with his belief that the modern world has nothing to offer, only for unforeseen circumstances to dictate that they must all return to that world, where his and his family’s entire worldview is shaken.
I also spent a good few words bemoaning the lack of Viggo roles for Viggo. I won’t repeat myself here; you all know what a Viggo role is. The premise of Captain Fantastic sounded like it could potentially be a good, meaty Viggo role. But of course it is impossible to tell one way or the other until we actually see him in action in the role.
Well we now have our first taste:
Rugged and sensitive warrior-poet rebelling against modern civilisation, for good or ill? That looks like it could just about be a Viggo role.
