Is It Too Early for that Lump in Your Throat?

A couple of weeks ago, we showed you the teaser trailer for Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air, which is already one of the favorites for Best Picture of the Year. However, until yesterday, Up in the Air was also facing stiff box-office competition with another George Clooney movie, The Men Who Stare At Goats, which was scheduled to be released on November 6th, just one week ahead of Up in the Air. Someone blinked, and the good news is that the two Clooney movies have now been separated by a month. The bad news? Up in the Air is the one that moved — all the way to December 4th, where it will get a limited release and platform its way to a wide release on Christmas Day. All of which is to say: It sucks to be those of us in smaller markets, who have to not only wait until December 25th to see Up in the Air, but — for those who only have one window to see a movie over the holiday week, we’ll also have to choose between it and Sherlock Holmes.

Fucking ruckin’.

The disappointment will only be heightened when you see the new full-length trailer for the film (below). This one gives you a lot more insight into what the movie is about: A professional hatchet man (Clooney), who spends his life traveling from one company to another to do the dirty work that managers don’t want to do themselves, which is to fire their employees. He travels light, which is to say: With no emotional baggage, and no ties to relationships. That is, until he meets Vera Farmiga, his love interests, and Anna Kendrick, who plays his mentee.

It’s definitely a lump-in-your-throat trailer. Check it out:
