A couple of weeks ago, I watched [Rec] for the first time. I’m not ashamed to admit that it scared the hell out of me. The Spanish film, written and directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, was a brilliant entry into the reality/horror genre, effectively using the first person, documentary-style filming to present a compelling and intense experience. It submerges the viewer into a claustrophobic nightmare with little explanation or background, leaving you just as confused and terrified as its cast.
Now, as is the case with all successful films, it’s getting a sequel. On the bright side, unlike some sequels, it’s being brought to us by the original film makers — Plaza and Balagueró returned to both write and direct, so at least we can assume it’ll be faithful to the original. Check the trailer out (warning — it’s red band, though I’m not sure why):
Interesting. Seems to start off right where the original ended, adding in an Aliens-style military force sent in to find out what the hell is going on. The trailer is a little too jittery to get a solid feel for it, but honestly, I’m sold regardless. The first one was too good not to be interested.
