Both the independently made drama The Room and its writer/director/star Tommy Wiseau are infamous, the movie for being dubbed one of the worst of all-time, the man for being an absolute mystery and next-level eccentric. It’s little wonder James Franco is fascinated by both. And in The Disaster Artist, he goes full Wiseau, applying facial prosthetics, a lank black wig, and a confounding accent to play the man, the myth, the legend.
Check out the teaser for the movie that had SXSW audiences yowling:
The Disaster Artist is based on the best-selling tell-all penned by The Room’s star and Wiseau’s best friend Greg Sestero (played by Dave Franco in the above film). (500) Days of Summer scribes Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber wrote the adapted screenplay, while James Franco directed the bizarre biopic, and brought along a long list of his famous friends to join in on the shenanigans, including Seth Rogen, Ari Graynor, Alison Brie, Jacki Weaver, and Josh Hutcherson.
The Distaster Artist will hit theaters December 1st.
Kristy Puchko reviewed The Disaster Artist out of SXSW. It was an uneasy experience you can read about here.
