Fans of George R. R. Martin’s “Song of Fire and Ice” saga have been waiting with bated breath for the HBO adaptation, “Game of Thrones.” Ever since it was announced, we’ve wondered how successful it would be, how they would manage to convey the vast, epic world that Martin created, along with the massive cast of well-realized characters. If you haven’t read the novels, you owe it to yourself to do so, regardless of whether or not you’re a fan of the genre. It’s that good.

Now, we have the first trailer for it. More a teaser, really. It reveals little, except to give a taste for the atmosphere and as far as teasers go, it’s pretty much right on the money. It’s just enough to make you want more. The series is still a ways off — as of right now, I believe only the pilot has been shot, with production on the remaining episodes to resume in July 2010. Here’s the trailer:

Winter Is Coming

Like I said, not much there, but enough to make us hungry for more. HBO is taking the project seriously, amassing an impressive cast list, with Tom McCarthy (The Station Agent) directing the pilot. They’ve even gone so far as to hire a an “expert language creator” to develop the Dothraki language. To say I’m excited would be one of the year’s greatest understatements.
