Hey, a couple days ago I wrote about a few people who should disappear for a little while, and I regret to say that Tom Hardy was on that list. Mind you, I didn’t want him to go away for good, nor do I think he did anything wrong other than appearing in a whole lot of movies lately. But uh, I just watched the trailer for his new FX series — you know, the one he wrote with his dad, CHIPS — and I’m not sure what the plot is anymore because for a couple of seconds, he’s basically buck naked.
YOU GUYS, I CHANGED MY MIND.
Just kidding about that not knowing the plot stuff; a girl was merely distracted. Can you blame me?
Created by Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight, and based on a story Hardy and Chips wrote together, Taboo features Tom as a long disappeared son (and adventurer) returned to Britain to avenge his father’s death, and take on the huge corporation that destroyed the family’s shipping empire. Set in the early 1800s, the series incorporates espionage, betrayal, conspiracy and murder, and alludes to the real-world history of the East India Trading Company, which Knight calls a “gigantic, ruthless, capitalist engine;” this is the company that Hardy’s James Delaney takes on. And if all that’s not enough to grab you, Ridley Scott is producing, and Oona Chapin, Jonathan Pryce, Leo Bill, Michael Kelly, Richard Dixon and David Hayman co-star.
