If you weren’t immediately swept into the heart-pounding panic by the sound of Leonardo DiCaprio’s breathing in Alejandro Inarritu’s first The Revenant trailer, the second picks up right where he left off. This based-on the true story of a frontiersman Hugh Glass (DiCaprio) left for dead after he’s mauled by a bear, is tailor-made to win a metric shit-ton of awards, but instead of resenting that, I predict we’ll be all on-board. Put aside your past impressions of Leo, enjoy the Hardy growl-speak, and watch a masterful director and cinematographer at work.
Christ almighty, that bear attack is terrifying,
and it looks like Inarritu (who wrote the adaptation of Punke’s novel) added a little extra nastiness in the form of a burial. Don’t even try to pretend you wont run to the theater for this one.
The Revenant also stars Domhnall Gleeson, Will Poulter and Lukas Haas; and it was shot only in natural light by Academy Award winning cinematographer, Emmanuel Lubezki. It hits theaters January 15, 2016.
