Today In Mesmerization: The 8 Minute Preview Of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Having only read the first few chapters of Stieg Larsson’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo before getting bored with the author’s style (it’s my own fault for being a Lit. major), and avoided the movies starring Noomi Rapace because I wanted to see David Fincher’s adaptation with fresh eyes, I was a bit reticent to watch the new trailer that actually goes past the eight-minute mark. Surprisingly, the preview merely embellishes on the previous full-length trailer without really giving anything else away. Basically, it hews closely to those first few chapters from the original novel, setting the story, establishing the main players, and then leaving an enticing mystery just desperately wanting to be solved. I think it may even be less “spoilery” than the first Nine Inch Nails/Karen O themed teaser.

Point being, whether you know the story or not, I think it’s safe to say you’ll be hard-pressed not to look away during the course of this brand new trailer. Rooney Mara is especially spellbinding, though in every way this also looks like it could be Fincher’s masterpiece. Basically, it’s a feat of advertising that could only exist and succeed on the Internet, because eight minutes would never play on TV or in a movie theater before the main attraction. So, watch and enjoy it below, and thank yourself for taking the time to do so when you’re done. Perhaps with an adult beverage (make mine Shiner!), but that’s your decision.

Rob Payne also writes the indie comic The Unstoppable Force, tweets on the Twitter @RobOfWar, and some of his wares can be purchased here. He’s tempted to watch the Rapace Girl movies now, but he’s strong enough to hold out a couple more weeks. He thinks. He… hopes.
