'Thor: Ragnarok' Trailer: A New Approach, A Spectacular Trailer

The first Thor movie is the worst movie in the MCU. This is fact. No one denies it. The second Thor film was something of an afterthought, as well. Thor and Loki are great characters, but thus far, the films have let them down.

Enter Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows, Hunt for the Wilderpeople) who has decided to take the franchise in a completely different direction, one better suited to the comedy chops of Hemsworth and Hiddleston. It’s more Guardians of the Galaxy than Thor. The trailer is also spectacular, featuring Hemsworth and Hiddleston, but also new characters played by Jeff Goldblum and Tessa “Good Lord” Thompson.

Dr. Wilson nails it here:

“He’s a friend! From work!” The precise naive happiness with which Hemsworth lands that line, is just perfect. Like, there are sixteen ways that could be intoned differently and yet he does it with exactly the right attitude, the pause between the two statements where there’s the happy beat of “oh, I need to explain this to the nice crazy Goldblum because he’s confused” that it is just transcendent.

Thor: Ragnarok arrives in November.
