'The Wedding Invitation': A Romantic Comedy Made By And For Women
Writer/director/actress Rainy Kerwin loves a good romantic comedy, but was frustrated that a genre crafted for female audiences boasted so few movies from female filmmakers. With her debut feature The Wedding Invitation, she set out to change that, crowd-funding a film that was made by and for women from top to bottom.
I met Rainy a couple of years back at the Louisiana Film Prize, and in between seeing shorts films and stuffing out faces with various local delicacies, we talked extensively about the film and women’s growing role in it. I was impressed by her passion and wit, so when The Wedding Invitation played at a film festival near me, I was eager to see her passion project for myself. It was sweet, funny, and defiantly female, covering everything from friendship and flirting, to the foibles of high heels and the perniciousness of high school rivalries.
And now, you can get in on the fun of The Wedding Invitation, which follows three best friends trying to break out of their ruts by finding dates to a friends’ ’80s-themed wedding. Check out the trailer below:
The Wedding Invitation will be released on VOD platforms on June 6, 2017.
