Well, raise my rent. I did not see that coming.
So here’s the trailer for the remake of Fright Night, which is one of those campy horror classics of my youth that I watched endlessly, and that hasn’t aged too terribly. It’s not a fantastic movie, but it’s an enjoyable one — the kind of movie that you roll your eyes when you hear about the remake, but you don’t exactly grab your pitchforks and torches.
So the details started to trickle in — Craig Gillespie (Lars And The Real Girl) would direct. It would feature an surprisingly solid cast — Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Toni Collette, Imogen Poots (Poots!), Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and David Tennant. And,,,
Oh, just watch the trailer:
So am I a drunken asshole, or does that actually look kind of… cool? I like the vibe, it’s capturing the Rear Window meets Dracula thing pretty nicely. Farrell isn’t overplaying the part, and it’s not nearly as cheesy as you would’ve thought. Then again, there’s no sign of Tennant, who I’m guessing will fill up the cheese quotient (the same should be said of Mintz-Plasse, if he turns into Evil Ed as his character did in the original). But damn me, it actually looks like it could be pretty fun.
