The thing about Kristen Stewart, at least, is that — aside from Twilight — she’s actually taken on some pretty solid roles, including Adventureland, The Yellow Handkerchief and Walter Salles’ upcoming adaptation of Keruoac’s On the Road. At least she wants to be taken seriously, though she always seems to have the same affectation. I like to call it mumble-wood.
All the same, Welcome to the Rileys looks solid. It stars James Gandolfini and the spectacular Melissa Leo, parents who lost a daughter. On a business trip, Gandolfini’s character meets a teenage stripper, and he attempts to save her, so to speak, which causes some emotional difficulties with his wife. Naturally. And it comes from director Jake Scott, son of Ridley. It looks, at the very least, like a great character movie for Leo and Gandolfini, and maybe Kristen Stewart can bring some attention to it.
