The Only Team-Up That Matters In 'The Defenders' Is Sigourney Weaver And Madame Gao

The spoils of San Diego Comic-Con continue, as we get a fresh and feisty new trailer for The Defenders. In addition to fights and quips from Matt, Luke, Jessica, and Fist Boy (I know his name is Danny, and no I don’t care), we get glimpses of the other familiar faces from the Netflix Marvel shows. Claire is there, along with Trish, Colleen, Stick, Foggy and more. And lots of Elektra, looking dazed and/or kicking ass. It also appears that her costume may involve a nifty long coat, and now I want one too.

But it’s Sigourney Weaver’s villainous Alexandra that we care about. And from the looks of things, she’s gonna get along just fine with Madame Gao, which is all that I really care about. Though who knows — maybe their relationship will be a little less Sex and the City and a little more Feud: Bette and Joan. I’m just saying: Madame Gao is totally a Samantha (that’s a SatC character, yeah?).

There was only a brief shot of Alexandra and Gao looking appraisingly at each other, but that’s enough for me. I would very much like them to not only dominate the mystical criminal underworld together, but also sip sparkling rosé at a fancy rooftop bar after work each day while their henchmen look on. The future is fucking female, after all.

And speaking of females, all the Defenders get obvious Big Damn Hero shots… except for Jessica Jones, who gets caught in a closing elevator door and later pops open a cold brew on the subway. I’m not complaining, I’m just saying they clearly know their audience, and Jessica is a hero to people who want to drink on the NYC Subway. Which is anyone who’s ever been on it.

The Defenders will hit Netflix on August 18th.
