The New 'Ant-Man' Trailer Is Chock Full of Schlock... But Not In A Bad Way

There’s really no other way to make a movie based on Marvel’s Ant-Man than to have a little fun with it. Sure, it certainly has its serious notes, but you don’t sign Paul Rudd on unless you’re going to have a good time. And the teaser that was released a while back played up the darkness. This time around, in a full-length trailer, there’s a little bit of both:

It works, mostly. It sometimes feels a little too video game-y, but then, it’s a movie about a man who can make himself teeny-tiny and who fights bad guys and controls bugs. That’s to be expected. There’s more of Corey Stoll (and I love me some Corey Stoll), including him in a very cool-looking Yellowjacket suit. There’s more, well, ants. Which was… OK. I’m not sold on the miniaturization CGI quite yet. And I’ll never be sold on Evangeline Lilly in anything, to be honest.

But that final scene, a fight scene taking place on top of what is essentially the train set that my kid plays with? I can’t help but love that.

Ant-Man is directed by Peyton Reed, and co-stars Michael Douglas, Bobby Cannivale, Michael Pena, and Judy Greer. It comes out July 17th, 2015.
