There’s a remake, a revival, or a reboot every other week at the box office these days. Some of them succeed, many of them fail. When they fail, however, no one says, “It failed because of men.” They blame it on a hundred different factors, but gender is never mentioned.
This Ghostbusters sequel or reboot or whatever it is is led by a female cast, and unfortunately — like Hillary — it’s under an intense amount of pressure, because if it fails, it won’t be because the script was bad, or the direction didn’t work, or because of the marketing. If it fails, the decision to make it female-led will be blamed.
Fortunately based on the first trailer, I don’t think anyone needs be concerned.
