Rick Famuyiwa’s Dope was a huge hit at Sundance last year, and this teaser trailer makes it clear why. The story of a Los Angeles geek obsessed with punk music and 90s hip hop, Vulture described it as “Go meets Risky Business meets True Romance meets Fingers, with a little bit of Boyz N the Hood and We Are the Best! thrown in.” So yeah, we want to see this movie.

As for the trailer, it looks to be a mash-up of styles that reflect the movie and its characters themselves, combining animation and live action footage with social media and 8-bit style elements. According to Famuyiwa, “We wanted it to look like something that would be created by Malcolm and his friends. It’s like we gave them the keys to the kingdom and said, ‘Go make the trailer.’”
