So here we are then. After years of speculation and half-promises, Danny Boyle and co. have given us a first look at the follow-up to one of the most iconic British movies of the 1990’s — and probably all time, but especially the 90’s.
Boyle’s 1996 adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s novel was, for better or worse, such a product of its time that it was hard to imagine what any sequel could possibly look like. At the time, it was inescapable on these shores. In many ways we live in a very different world to the one depicted in the original movie so it will be interesting to see where Boyle takes the sequel — adapted as it is from Welsh’s early 2000’s follow-up novel, Porno.
The trailer released for T2: Trainspotting doesn’t really give that much away, apart from a maybe too on-the-nose updating of the iconic ‘choose life’ speech. Check it out:
One thing’s for sure: it’ll be interesting to see how Danny Boyle — that most restless of directors — fares returning to a previous property.
T2: Trainspotting will be released in the UK on 27 January 2017, in the US on 3 February 2017, and worldwide on 10 February 2017.
