Sundance, having thrown us out of their film festival a couple of years ago had the gall to start producing interesting original content this last year, with Rectify and Top of the Lake headlining a lot of best-of lists. Well, now they’ve released the trailer for The Red Road, a new series that begins on February 27th with a six episode first season. It’s set on an Indian reservation outside New York City, and involves all sorts of light comedy elements, like murder, pacts between criminals and cops, and Jason Momoa’s eyebrows of misfortune.
The series stars Martin Henderson (star of the unfortunate Gray’s Anatomy in paradise Off the Map), Jason Momoa (all your sun and stars), Julianne Nicholson (she’ll always be Mr. Big’s partner on the terrible version of Law and Order) and Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan and about a hundred bad movies).
Here’s the trailer:
Laugh a minute, I tell you.
Here’s the obligatory plot summary:
THE RED ROAD is a hard-hitting drama that revolves around a sheriff struggling to keep his family together while simultaneously policing two clashing communities: the small town where he grew up and the neighboring Ramapo Mountains, home of the Ramapo Mountain Indians. After a terrible tragedy and coverup occurs involving the sheriff’s wife, an unholy alliance is forged between the sheriff and a dangerous member of the tribe that will come back to haunt all involved.
I think that if the show is bad, it should end with Raylan Givens stepping out of the shadows, outdrawing the collective cast and shooting everyone involved. In fact I think that should be a general rule of thumb with all shows involving cops and criminals. Go out with style.
