Somehow the trailer for Stay Cool slipped under the radar last week; in fact, I haven’t seen it anywhere else, and only know of it because of a reader tip (thanks, Returnofthesmith). It comes from the Polish Brothers (Mark and Michael), who broke on the scene back in 1999 with Twin Falls, Idaho and were also responsible for Billy Bob Thornton’s Astronaut Farmer.
Stay Cool debuted at Tribeca earlier this year. It does feature an impressive cast, including Mark Polish, Winona Ryder, Hilary Duff, Sean Astin, Jon Cryer, Josh Holloway, and Chevy Chase. And of course, by “impressive,” I mean: you’ve heard of them.
The premise: A best-selling author returns to his high school to give the commencement speech, but has to deal with an old flame (Winona Ryder), as well as a high-schooler who is making advances (Hilary Duff). As for the trailer, the only things of note, really, are Sean Astin’s hair (seriously, woah!) and Sawyer’s facial hair.
There’s no release date on this yet; I won’t be surprised if it, eventually, makes its way direct-to-DVD. And as for Winona Ryder — looks like the curse of Adam Sandler is still clinging to her. I told you folks — starring as the romantic lead opposite Adam Sandler is the kiss of death to any actress’s career (see also: Paz Vega, Patricia Arquette, Joey Lauren Adams, Fairuza Balk, and even Keri Russell, now. And has anyone seen what’s happened to Jessica Biel’s career since Chuck and Larry? See?)
