One can’t help but wonder if Snowtown is coming a little too soon. It’s based on the true story of Australian serial killer John Bunting, whose murders took place less than 20 years ago, meaning many of the families and loved ones of the victims are still around. It’s bound to open up some wounds. That said, the trailer looks damn good, and early reviews in Australia for it have been uniformly positive. It looks positively chilling.
Bunting was convicted of 11 murders in and around Adelaide, South Australia, and is currently serving consecutive life sentences for all of them. He married a woman named Elizabeth Harvey, and drew her son, James Vlassakis, into his web. He preyed predominately on people he suspected of being pedophiles or gay, groups he unfortunately did not differentiate between.
Australia has proven to be a source of some truly stunning film making in the past few years, and this one doesn’t look like it’s going to break that trend. Check the trailer:
