Hey, remember that shaky-cam, found footage technique End of Watch employed? How’d you like to take that personal pov thing, and run around for a couple of hours? That seems to be the idea behind Russian director, Ilya Naishuller’s Hardcore, a science fiction thriller that claims to be the “first ever action pov film.” Leading a cyborg named Henry on a mission to save his kidnapped wife is Sharlto Copley aka Jimmy. Usually Sharlto is a big draw for me, but I’m not sure how enamored I am by the idea of essentially watching someone play a video game. Check it out and see what you think:
Maybe this is where the movie watchers are separated from the gamers? Shot nearly entirely on a custom-designed GoPro rig, produced by director Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch), Hardcore co-stars Danila Kozlovsky (Vampire Academy), and Haley Bennet. Naishuller is seeking funding to complete the film (CGI, sound, color correction) on IndieGoGo, so if you’d like to contribute, head on over.
