I’m probably WAY more excited about this than I should be, and if you listen closely, you can actually hear Mrs. TK rolling her eyes. But goddamn if this trailer for the documentary Secret Origin: The Story Of DC Comics doesn’t look fantastic. Comic books have an amazing history, and DC, being one of the oldest companies around, is particularly so. While they may not be the juggernaut they once were, there’s no denying that in addition to creating what are unquestionably the two most iconic and well-known characters of all time — Superman and Batman — there’s likely a hell of a story to tell.
Given that 2010 is the 75th anniversary of the company, DC (derived from the Detective Comics series way back when) has pulled out all the stops for the film. It’s narrated by the Green Lantern himself, Ryan Reynolds, who through being a hit at Comic Con and completely fucking adorable with children, appears determined to establish his geek cred.
Even better, it’s directed by Jeffrey Blitz, who helmed the riveting Spellbound, and despite the presence of too much of The Trailer Voice in the trailer, it seems like he’s intent on creating something special that will hopefully appeal to more than the hardcore comic book purveyors. Besides, if the guy can make a documentary about spelling bees interesting, well, let’s just say this should be a slam dunk.
Secret Origin: The Story of DC Comics will be released on DVD on November 9th, and you can bet your goddamn Batman underoos that I’ll be watching and reviewing it.
