Season Two of 'The Leftovers' Looks To Be One Hell of a Fresh Start

The Leftovers has been teasing us with some big season two changes all summer. First we had this teaser, which has been momentarily tricking my confused Sunday night brain into thinking, week after week, that True Detective actually had an engaging, interesting opening scene. (I’m not too bright, clearly.)

So we knew the show was moving to Texas, but we didn’t know why. Was it going to be focusing on all new characters? Would us show us the same time frame as season one, but as seen in a different town? Well, from this full-length trailer, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Instead, it’ll still focus on the Garvey family (plus Nora Durst!) as they relocate to a town in Texas that claims to have not experienced a single Departure.

This looks to be a shakeup big enough to keep Leftovers fans interested, but the unrelentingly depressing tone that kept so many of you from liking the show in the first place definitely still seems to be firmly in place. The two big questions that come up here are: 1. How is Damon Lindelof going to handle this story now that he’s run (is running? Anyone out there familiar with the book?) out of source material? And 2. WHAT IS PATTY DOING THERE?
