Robert Pattinson Acts, Doesn't Sparkle

It is likely no coincidence that this trailer is being released on the same day as the new Twilight film, New Moon (look for Dustin’s review later today). It stars sparkly-superhunk Robert Pattinson as a tortured artsy-type who is misunderstood by his father and the man in general.

It also … doesn’t look that bad.

I’m of two minds when it comes to the Twilight folks. I’ve said before that I think that Kristen Stewart has some potential as an actress, and perhaps the same is true of Pattinson. Twilight, in addition to being a painfully insipid and pathetic romance that shits all over the vampire mythos, appears to be guilty of the same crimes that the new Star Wars trilogy was — that is to say, somehow coaxing truly awful performances out of its actors.

Regardless, here’s the trailer for Remember Me, the new Pattinson film. It’s one of those kid-from-the-wrong-side-of-the-tracks flicks, starring the adorably delightful Emilie De Ravin (“Lost”) as the love interest. But it also stars Pierce Brosnan being all American-like, and perhaps most importantly, Chris Cooper. Chris Cooper is really what sells me — I’ll see anything with him in it. It’s directed by Allen Coulter, who directed the flawed but nonetheless underrated Hollywoodland. So check it out and you tell me: Is Pattinson doomed forever to sparkletardness, or does the boy have some promise?

Boy still needs to learn to lay off the product, though.
