I’m of two minds about this. On the one hand, I wish that writer/director Paco Plaza had simply let his excellent 2007 horror movie [Rec] exist on its own, without a sequel (the less said about the listless, shot-for-shot American remake, the better). I loved the original, and had mixed feelings about its sequel. So part of me wishes that [REC]³ Génesis never had cause to exist. On the other hand, I’d love for him to somehow recapture the brilliance of the first film — the tense, taut, terrifying experience that made it one of the better horror films of the last decade.
The trailer for the third entry is certainly an interesting one. It’s short but effective, a nasty looking horror show set during a wedding, of all places. And if there’s ever a great setting for a zombie-like outbreak scenario, a wedding is definitely on the list. I’m going to be the best man in a wedding in a couple of weeks, and that would certainly change the tone of things. Then again, I’m of the opinion that zombies (or ninjas, or zombie ninjas!) would make any scenario more interesting.
