Prepare to Have Your Hopes Skyrocket For 'The Little Prince'

I know that many of us are hardwired to be innately defensive when it comes to remakes and adaptations, especially when the source material comes from our childhoods. It makes sense; when we love something, we’re allowed to feel protective of it. We all WANT to see our memories come to life, but we’re so often disappointed with the result that we end up hating the very idea of a new take on our childhood favorites.

But this Little Prince trailer… I want to be skeptical, I want to stay guarded and protect my little nostalgic heart. But it looks so sweet, so magical, and so goddamn BEAUTIFUL (that change in animation style tho), that I’ll admit it— I’m in. More than anything, it looks like the movie I would have wanted to see as a child.

Yes, this trailer is in French. Here’s a loose translation:

Old man: Oh, oh! I’m here! Up here! [He waves.] Good evening! Little girl: [Reading] Once upon a time, a little prince who needed a friend? Old man: I’ve flown almost everywhere in the world, until something miraculous happened. Little Prince: Please, draw me a sheep. Old man: I’ve always wanted to find someone to share my story with, but I think this world has become too grown-up … It’s only the beginning of the story!
The American cast will include Rachel McAdams, Jeff Bridges, Marion Cotillard, Albert Brooks, Paul Giamatti, and Benicio del Toro. Also James Franco, and not even THAT manages to kill my excitement.
