OMG Trailer: Are MRAs The True Villain of 'Ghostbusters'?

Bad news for dudes wailing over girls taking over all their things, Ghostbusters is rolling out more action, new scenes, and a look at their big baddie with a new trailer. And am I wrong in thinking that the makers of this reboot are targeting their haters specifically here?

We’ve told you about how there’s a concentrated misogynistic effort to shit on this movie. Sure, there are some people who just don’t like the idea of a new Ghostbusters without the original cast in the lead roles. And that’s totally fine. But acting like rebooting the film with females is some SJW plot to feminazi America or some such “masculinity so fragile” argument is just next-level ridiculous. Or…is it?

Over the past few months, we’ve seen this simple summer movie transformed into a war cry, pitting vile assbags versus the rest of us. But in this trailer, Kevin’s cute cluelessness and annoying entitlement of “anything you can do I can obviously do better” opens him up to possession by an evil spirit that wants to bring the all-female crew down.

Just yesterday I was lamenting that Ghostbusters can’t just be a movie because of a bunch of sexist fanboys. But maybe Paul Feig never intended for it to be just a movie. Maybe it is political. And if the box office success of Feig’s past films (Bridesmaids, The Heat) are any indication, we’ll all be feasting on steamy cups of Male Tears come July.

Kristy Puchko isn’t so much an angry feminist as much as an exhausted one.
