Those cheeky Brits always have something up their sleeves, don’t they? First they unleash Benedict Cumberbatch as “Sherlock,” leave us waiting forever for the next installment and now we’ll have to resort to hooking and crooking to get hold of this little number. Sky Movies will premiere their two-part Peter Pan prequel, “Neverland” in July, but Godtopus knows when we’ll be able to see it stateside. The made-for-television film is billed as an original story of how the orphaned Pan (Charlie Rowe, Pirate Radio, Never Let Me Go) came to be the Boy Who Never Grew Up. Rhys Ifans stars as the infamous Jimmy Hook, a man who runs a fencing school and “mentors” little Peter and his pickpocketing friends. Transported through a magical portal to Neverland, Peter and company meet up with characters transported from different places and times: Captain Elizabeth Bonny (Friel) and Smee (Bob Hoskins, reprising his Hook role), along with native tree spirit Tinkerbell (voiced by Keira Knightly). Ifans is the standout in this trailer; the film looks like a good bit of fantastical fun that won’t have to try hard to be better than other Pan adaptations:

“Neverland” is directed by Nick Willing (“Alice, Tin Man”) and also stars Charles Dance (“Game of Thrones,” Your Highness), Q’orianka Kilcher (“Sons of Anarchy,” Princess Kaiulani ) and Cas Anvar (Source Code, “Lost”).
