Nicole Kidman has a long road to travel if she wants to make her way back from the disaster that was the response to Grace of Monaco. (I can’t say for certain that the movie was terrible, but I’m taking the word of every single person that saw it at Cannes.) Her first step is Before I Go to Sleep. Here is a live blog of my response to the trailer:

Hmm, weird…. Oh! That was cool… Huh, this isn’t what I expected… Whoa, creepy! Awesome! Okay, I’m totally in, Nicole Kidman!

Then I realized it was a trailer for the next Planet of the Apes movie. Honestly, there’s nothing on the internet that has caused me as many minutes of confusion as advertised trailers playing before intended trailers. Anyway, the ACTUAL trailer for Before I Go to Sleep, which is about a woman who wakes up every morning with a brain wiped clean with amnesia (like 50 First Dates, but more attempted murder than meet-cute), is thrilling in that generic way that makes you pretty sure you’ve just seen all the best moments of the movie itself. Still, Colin Firth phoning it in is better than no Colin Firth at all.
