Forget the Halloween Movies; John Hillcoat's 'Triple 9' Looks Like a Real Horror Show
Sometimes you watch a trailer, and feel your heart sinking down, down, down until it impossibly settles in your stomach. This is one of those times.
Director John Hillcoat likes to dig in the dark places, wallow in Cormac McCarthy territory, and he knows how to round up a killer cast. For his latest, a heist movie involving a street gang, bad cops and the perpetrators of evil we know as The Russian Mafia™, stars Woody Harrelson, Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Casey Affleck, Norman Reedus, Aaron Paul, Anthony Mackie, Teresa Palmer, Michael Peña and Gal Gadot. It doesn’t get much better than that. The story involves a sacrificial sideshow on one side of town to perpetrate a blackmail-inspired robbery on the other side of town, and well, you know how these sorts of things go (horribly wrong). **Note: Do yourself a favor and don’t read the Wiki entry, which gives a little too much plot information. With this violent, gruesome red-band trailer, Hillcoat almost sets up that age-old conundrum; should you watch or look away?
Uh, that trunk scene? Yeah, you’re gonna watch.
Is it just me, or did the thought that Casey would be a better Batfleck cross your mind?
