With just two seasons HBO’s Flight of the Conchords was a sensational sitcom gone too soon. But in the wake of its finale, its stars have split to do some pretty spectacular projects. Bret McKenzie became an Academy Award-winning songwriter for The Muppets. And Jemaine Clement co-wrote, co-directed and starred in the horror-comedy that’s become a festival darling, What We Do In The Shadows. As you can see from the critical praise splattered about in the gory and goofy trailer below, it’s pretty damn great.
Made by Clement and Flight of the Conchords co-creator Taika Waititi, What We Do In The Shadows is a mockumentary that follows four vampire roommates, who may be immortal flying beasts of the night, but also squabble over dishes. Because of course they do! In the trailer above, you get a look at a comedy that seems a shrewd send-up not just of the vampire subgenre but also of reality TV series that make drama out of everyday lives. There’s lots of laughs in this extended trailer from Yahoo, but they had us at, “We’re werewolves, not swear wolves.”
What We Do In The Shadows will finally come to the U.S. on February 13th. So, consider your Valentine’s Day plans made.
