James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain Are Here to Destroy Your Soul
There’s a trailer out for the film The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, starring Pajiba 10 contenders and alumni James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain. The film is notable because it began as two paired movies, one told from his perspective and one told from hers, but director Ned Benson has edited together a version that combines the two. That version, the “both sides” version, will premiere September 26th, with plans to release the two individual films later in the fall.
The trailer shows the combined film to be the kind of quietly devastating story of love and loss that most of us probably try to avoid seeing in the theater because it’s uncomfortable when strangers see you weeping like that. I’m sure the split perspective movies will also each be completely soul-destroying in their own way. Once they’re all released, they should make for a beautiful misery marathon.
