Ah, Blair Witch, the great grand daddy of the last ten years of horror. Eduardo Sanchez, one of the film’s two writers and directors had done little for the last decade that distinguishes his work from that first gold strike, and it looks like he’s returning to the same source again for the upcoming Lovely Molly. Here’s the trailer:
So… how is this not just Paranormal Activity? I know to some degree that films of particular sub-genres are going to have a lot in common. And that’s intensified by trailers tending to emphasize the movie’s similarity to other films in the sub-genre that were successful. But seriously, that trailer is pretty much straight up the same film as Paranormal Activity, and the plot description that’s been released does little to shake that first impression:
When newlywed Molly Reynolds returns to her long-abandoned family home, frightful reminders of a nightmarish childhood begin seeping into her new life. She soon begins an inexorable descent into an evil that blurs the lines between psychosis and possession.
