Add me to the list of haven’t-read-it-yet Outlander-curious — there seem to be a lot of us out here. I’m contractually obligated by law (my own) to watch anything Ronald D. Moore puts his name to; add a hot guy with a Scottish accent, and there’s no way you can keep me away. But I’m also rarely attracted to anything with the word “romance” attached to it, so who knows? I feel like this second trailer (Steven was looking for the Kurgan in the first, but there’ve been no Clancy Brown sightings as yet) has potential if one is willing to overlook the introductory monotone voiceover and the overdone soundtrack. It’s looking like an alternative Game of Thrones, with more warm fuzziness and hopefully, less non-consensual sex.
The storyline begins with former military nurse (circa WWII) Claire (Caitriona Balfe), mysteriously separated from her husband Frank (Tobias Menzies), and waking in a different timeline where she meets and falls for another man (Sam Heughan). I’m sure that’s over-simplifying things, since the story is based on Diana Gabaldon’s set of eight novels, but basically: love, time travel, historical fiction, war and intrigue. Here’s the new trailer from Outlander’s Australian broadcast channel, SoHo:
An interesting aside; the author has said that the character of Jamie was inspired by the Doctor Who companion (to Patrick Troughton), Jamie_McCrimmon because she liked the “fetching” idea of a man in his kilt.
