Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, formerly Hugo Cabret, stars Sacha Baron Cohen, Jude Law, Chloe Moretz, Emily Mortimer, and a kid straight out of Spielberg central casting as the title character. I had not read too much about Hugo Cabret, but the trailer is not what I expected from the director of Goodfellas, The Departed, Shutter Island, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Casino … you get the idea. Point being, there’s not much in Scorsese’s filmography that screams BIG WHIMSICAL FAMILY FILM but that’s exactly what Hugo suggests.

I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, I’m just saying, dude: There’s enough family fare to go around. Leave it to Spielberg and the Night at the Museum guy, you know? This holiday season, some of us would prefer to see dead bodies in trunks. Think of the grown-ups, won’t you?
