We’ve heard a lot of stories over the years about how the stars of the original Star Wars trilogy felt about the films as they were making them. Alec Guinness hated them, Harrison Ford hated them, Carrie Fisher… well, Carrie Fisher hated that metal bikini a LOT.
Now there’s a documentary coming out that tells the story of the movies’ non-stars. Elstree 1976 was Kickstarted by filmmaker Jon Spira two years ago, pitched as a look at the “big people” playing “small roles,” and how their experience doing so was unlike anything that had come before.
For a lot of these actors, this was typical extra work. As one of them says in the trailer below, “It was just like another job, except you look weird.” It’s only because of the insanely passionate fandom that surrounds the franchise that Boba Fett was made a superstar, and that X-Wing pilots and Twi’leks are celebrated at cons.
The movie has its premiere in May, and in the meantime, the trailer is sure to make you at least a little misty.
