The trailer for I’m Not Ashamed, from the studio behind God’s Not Dead 2: Electric Christaloo, was posted to YouTube way back on March 29th, and I treasure every day between then and now that I was not subjected to it. Alas, my idyll is now over. Did you make it past “I’ve always been drawn to hands. I think it’s because it’s the way that we touch people,” or was it the “A student at Columbine” intertitle that did you in?
There’s nothing inherently wrong with making a movie about a horrifying, traumatic subject like this—Paul Greengrass’ United 93 is a movie generally regarded to have done it well—but you have to be careful not to get exploitative with it. Let’s just say faith-based films don’t have a great track record with that sort of thing.
