Trailer: Gwendoline Christie, Nicole Kidman And Elisabeth Moss Join Forces For 'Top Of The Lake: China Girl'
Jane Campion and Gerard Lee’s limited series Top of The Lake was eerie, riveting, and widely acclaimed. And it seems lightning will strike twice with its second season Top of the Lake: China Girl.
Elisabeth Moss returns as Detective Robin Griffin. But this time, instead of investigating the bizarre mystery behind a 12-year-old girl’s suicide attempt, she’s diving down a rabbit hole that begins with the discovery of a sinister suitcase found on a New Zealand beach. Also on board for this intriguing mystery are Game of Thrones Gwendoline Christie and Nicole Kidman, hot off the scorching success of Big Little Lies.
Here’s the official synopsis, courtesy of The Playlist:
Top of the Lake: China Girl is a crime mystery story that finds Detective Robin Griffin recently returned to Sydney and trying to rebuild her life. When the body of an Asian girl washes up on Bondi Beach, there appears little hope of finding the killer, until Robin realizes “China Girl” didn’t die alone. Robin looks to the investigation to restore herself, but her problems are personal. Haunted by a daughter given up at birth, Robin desperately wants to find her, yet dreads revealing the truth of her conception. But her search to discover “China Girl’s” identity will take her into the city’s darkest recesses and closer than she could have imagined to the secrets of her own heart.
I know Peak TV means there’s too much damn content to keep up on. But trust us, you won’t want to miss Top of the Lake: China Girl. The series will debut at the Cannes Film Festival, then air on SundanceTV this September, and eventually on BBC Two.
