BBC One just released a new trailer for the Sherlock special airing January 1, and it gives a little bit more information than the first Holmes-Watson banterfest we saw back in October. No complaints there, of course; the Freeman and Cumberbatch quiptacularity is a huge part of the series’ draw. With our last encounter having aired almost two years to the day ago (curses, Moffat!), we’re pretty much salivating over any footage at all, so go ahead and immerse yourself in this latest snippet and see what you can catch.
There she is, friends, the titular bride. I don’t know how the hell she sees through that particular veil under cover of night, but from the looks of things her aim is true. Sherlock gets in a little funny about a trip to the morgue with Watson, presumably to check out either a missing female corpse or the dude the bride had in her sights.
I love the creepy feeling this time around; it imparts the feeling of a true mystery for the boys to unravel and it’ll be a real treat to see them in Victorian London, costumes and all.
“The Abominable Bride” is written by Mark Gattis and Steven Moffat, directed by Douglas Mackinnon (Doctor Who, Jekyll) — who’s also directing the Who Christmas Special — and airs simultaneously on BBC1 and PBS, January 1, 2016.
