I didn’t want to watch this. I really didn’t. I wanted to wait until the show’s premiere, and experience it in its entirety. But two things happened: First, Steven, who would normally write this up, watched it and then promptly fainted (in a totally manly way). Second, well… I just couldn’t fucking help myself.
It’s the first fifteen minutes. It’s quiet, somber, and evenly paced. Everyone speaks in low tones. The costume design is perfect, and the production design is pretty damn remarkable, down to the smallest detail — notice that in the archery scene, the fletching of each arrow is different and a little raggedy. The brief action is intense, and the Others are freaky as hell. And when Sean Bean says, “Winter is coming,” I literally got chills.
