Finally, A Comic-Book Series For Those Who Are Tired of Comic-Book Series

I liked comic-book superhero movies, I’m just kind of burnt out. Aside from Deadpool, the Marvel formula, the DC dreariness, and even the Marvel Netflix series have kind of worn me out. There’s so much good television, and so many good movies that the idea of watching another variation on the same character and/or theme is wearying. What do we have left to say?

But this is new. Here’s the trailer for an NBC series called Powerless. You know all of those extras in superhero movies who are running away from carnage, or whose cars are destroyed? This is about them. The real people left to live in a world ravaged by superhero conflict.

It’s a little too broad for my tastes (at least in the marketing of it), but there’s some potential, if they can manage to keep the joke alive for an entire season. Vanessa Hudgens, Danny Pudi, and Alan Tudyk star, and it comes from Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker, a really great team behind a fantastic series that was cancelled after only a few episodes called Surviving Jack. Halpern also oversaw Cougar Town and consults on IZombie.

The show arrives in two weeks, following Superstore. It’s taken over The Good Place’s timeslot, which ends its season tonight.
