Here is the first trailer for Julia Roberts’ Eat, Pray, Love, Ryan Murphy’s adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert’s best-selling memoir. It’s about a woman going through a divorce who decides to travel for a year and, you know, find herself (sounds like the bougie, chick-lit version of Into the Wild).
That memoir has been oft discussed here in our Cannonball Read, and opinion seems to be split between those who liked the book, and those who found it smug and self-indulgent. I don’t think Julia Roberts — who some of you think is profoundly boring — will sway opinion one way or another. It looks like a smug, self-indulgent movie that the likes of Oprah would wallow approvingly in, although the very brief moments in the trailer with Richard Jenkins look fantastic. Otherwise, a big fat bowl of meh.
The movie opens on August 13th.
