Last fall, Gillian Flynn brought us a fascinating thriller and feminist football with Gone Girl. This year will give adrenaline junkies the second adaptation of a Flynn novel with the Gilles Paquet-Brenner helmed Dark Places.
Charlize Theron stars as Libby Day, a woman whose life was shaped by a hideous night in her childhood that left her mother and sisters dead. Libby escaped the clutches on a merciless killer, and later testified against her brother. Years later, wounds are reopened when the Day murders become the focus of an independent team of crime solvers known as the Kill Club.
The latest clip takes us and Libby into this macabre meet-up, complete with killer cosplay:
Let’s just get this out of the way: Yes, Theron is too pretty to play Libby. The book was pretty explicit in how badly Libby’s night of terror impacted her body, scarring her for life both mentally and physically. But aside from Libby’s Hollywood makeover, it seems Paquet-Brenne is keeping pretty true to the tone and content of Flynn’s Dark Places. And with Nicolas Hoult, Corey Stoll, Christina Hendricks and Chloe Grace Moretz co-starring, we’re in for what’s sure to be a wild ride.

No U.S. release date has yet been announced for Dark Places.
Kristy Puchko is stunned Young Adult wasn’t a bigger deal.
