This is the trailer for Brotherhood, which is in a dilly of a pickle. You see, it submerges itself in every pathetic fraternity stereotype there is — all white, entitled, date-rapey douchsnausages who try to score chicks while upholding some sort of idiotic sense of heritage and puking on themselves. Call it the prep school version of Omerta.
And while I was never in a fraternity, nor did I go to any fraternity parties — because I was a completely different type of elitist prick — I try not to judge the people who were too harshly. Mainly because I doubt any fraternities are as ridiculous as they’re portrayed to be in movies. At least I hope not.
MY POINT IS, the premise for Brotherhood is inherently ridiculous. As part of a fraternity’s hazing process, they have to hold up a convenience store (!). And then hijinks ensue, people get shot, and a black guy gets kidnapped, and everything goes off the rails. It’s stupid. And yet… it’s actually been making the rounds on the film festival circuit, and even winning some audience awards. So I don’t know what to make of that. The trailer looks like another version of that movie where kids play a prank and something goes wrong. You know the one. It’s totally an original concept.
Whatever. Watch it and… oh, no one gives a shit what you think.
