If 'Preacher' Can Live Up to Its First Trailer, We're All In For a Hell Of a Ride

I haven’t watched The Walking Dead in a few seasons, but after spending tonight on Twitter waiting for the Preacher trailer to air, I learned that wow did you guys REALLY hate tonight’s episode. Apparently a 90-minute Morgan backstory was not all that popular an idea. The upside, though? That Preacher trailer, which aired as promised during the episode, was heart-stopping. Dominic Cooper looks to straight-up kill it as the mysterious preacher with a heart of violence, and I suddenly find myself way too angry at the very concept of the basic passage of time. Because “mid-2016” is WAY too far away.

Now, for absolute full disclosure, this is the point where I have to admit that I have never read a single panel of Preacher. It has sat firmly in the middle of my “must read” list for a decade. While I would love to have more of a frame of reference for this, it is nice to view an adaptation blind. There are so many shows and movies (Jessica Jones, I am hopefully and optimistically looking at you) for which the best they can do is live up to the source material. It’s kind of refreshing to not have any bar to clear other than just being a good, entertaining show.

Having said that, I want to hear from you existing Preacher fans. How does this trailer stand up to/increase/temper your expectations?
