I’m sure Keanu Reeves has done something worthwhile since the end of The Matrix trilogy, but nothing sticks out on IMDB other than Constantine, which just detonates into an angry black hole and swallows the rest of the list. Reeves is going back to wire-fu sword mastery in the new 47 Ronin, which trade news publications are claiming has been remade 80 different times in Japan.
Here’s the trailer:
Well thank god all those legendary Asian swordsmen found a washed up unkempt white dude to be their Last Samurai. I kid. Mostly. It’s possible for a film to be damned good internally even while externally it’s got meta problems that make you roll your eyes.
The real science fiction/fantasy bent on this film is the simple fact that Keanu Reeves is 48 years old. Now either this is one hell of a triumph of special effects, or the man is simply immortal.
47 Ronin gets a Christmas Day release this year.
