This crowd is familiar with Geeks Who Drink, right? Mixing nerdy, pop culture trivia with booze seems right up our alley. And Syfy is hoping to tap into that ethos with their first game show.
The NBCUniversal-owned cable network has picked up to series Geeks Who Drink, based on the popular trivia contest of the same name.
Zachary Levi will executive produce and host the series, which hails from Kinetic Contact and Condé Nast Entertainment and the Chuck alum’s Nerd Machine production company. The 12-episode weekly game show will premiere Thursday, July 16.
I’m not doubting Zachary Levi’s nerd creed. Nor do I think Geeks Who Drink the pub trivia game won’t translate well into the game show format. But, Syfy, really? It’s called Geeks Who Drink . It isn’t called “Geeks Who Work On Teams Together.” It’s like giving us “Outlander Without the Boning.” Or “Music Festivals Without the Drugs.” It’s not that it’s bad necessarily. It’s just missing the fun part.
