Headlines and Bullet Points: What's Going on in the World of Entertainment News Today?

— Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who wrote Zombieland, have had a hell of a time getting the sequel going. After writing Deadpool, however, they finally have the greenlight on Zombieland 2, which will come after Deadpool 2, which means that the writers of two of the best comedy/genre films of the last decade have two chances to either keep alive their strong track record or completely blow it.

— Kevin Bacon will be reprising his role as Valentine McKee in a television version of his cult comedy-horror movie Tremors for Amazon. The series will ignore all of the Tremors sequels.

— TNT has ordered a pilot for a television series based on the stellar Swedish vampire film, Let the Right One In, which was remade into a pretty decent American version. I’m less enthused about a TV adaptation, if only because it comes from TNT, whose television remake of Animal Kingdom was only so-so.

— Zach Braff also has a pilot in the works for ABC called Start Up based on Alex Blumberg’s podcast of the same name (I have not listened to Start Up, but I love Blumberg’s contributions to Reply All). Braff will also direct the pilot, which is about a guy in his mid-30s with a wife and two kids makes the crazy decision to quit his good job and dive into the brave new world of starting a business. Hopefully, the “good job” he quit is still This American Life and the new business is Blumberg’s podcast network, Gimlet. I’d be more excited about this if it weren’t starring Zach Braff.

— Speaking of Braff, Angie Han over on Slashfilm and our own Kristy Puchko have forced me to re-examine my favorite sitcom of all time, and now I’m sad.

SAD FACE EMOJI, not for the observation itself, but because they’re probably right.

— What could possibly make Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, an adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s feminist dystopian masterpiece, more intriguing than a cast that already includes Elisabeth Moss and Samira Wiley? Adding Yvonne Strahovski, that’s what. Joseph Feinnes has also been tapped for the series.

— Kaitlyn Dever (Justified) joins the cast of a Kathryn Bigelow Detroit riot drama — set over 5 days in the summer of 1967 — that already stars Jacob Latimore, Algee Smith, Will Poulter, Ben O’Toole, Jack Reynor, and John Boyega. Hannah Murray — Gilly from Game of Thrones — is also in the cast.

— Anne Hathaway will produce and star in Live Fast, Die Hot, based on a series of personal essays by Jenny Mollen, an actress who is married to actor Jason Biggs. It’s about dealing with issues of motherhood, and her travels to Morocco and Peru. It’s probably also about being married to a sexist douche.
